With a strategic perspective, ERPC is keen on broadening the scope of Inland Valley Swamps (IVS) rice production. Our ambition is to incorporate high-yield rice varieties through small-scale mechanization, thereby, promoting the mechanization and commercialization of agriculture. This step signifies a major turning point in the way farming has traditionally been conducted in the region. By implementing this change, we aim to revolutionize the agricultural sector, making it more competitive and robust. Our primary objective in this respect is to ensure that local farmers nationwide gain access to mechanized farming methods. This approach is underpinned by sustainable agricultural practices and value chain activation. We firmly believe that this comprehensive strategy will enable local farmers to increase their yields, improve their livelihoods, and contribute more effectively to the nation’s food security and economic prosperity.
This initiative serves a multitude of purposes. Firstly, it optimizes our nationwide operations, bringing about a substantial improvement in our efficiency and productivity. This, in turn, stimulates a more robust economy. Secondly, it fosters youth and women empowerment by creating job opportunities. This not only helps in alleviating poverty but also enables the younger generation to contribute actively to the economic fabric of the nation. Additionally, this initiative promotes inclusive and sustainable economic growth, keeping in line with our commitment towards building an equitable and prosperous society.
Furthermore, by advocating sustainable consumption and production, we are fostering a culture of responsible agricultural practices that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our commitment to the SDGs underscores our dedication towards a future where agriculture does not come at the cost of our environment. Through these combined efforts, we believe that ERPC can contribute significantly towards making Sierra Leone and West Africa a self-sustaining and prosperous nation.
Our mantra, “Getting Rice Right as a Business,” encapsulates our multifaceted vision for transforming the agricultural sector. We aim to shift perceptions, particularly among younger generations, and highlight the potential rewards of choosing agriculture as a career path. By identifying avenues for increased market engagement, we hope to introduce new opportunities and foster innovation within this critical industry. Farming should be seen not just as a duty or a means of subsistence, but as a viable and profitable business venture. We believe that with the right tools, knowledge, and support, farming can become a coveted profession, held in high regard for its significance in driving the economy and ensuring food security.
